Welcome to Moonshot, Tanisha Wilson
Before we start this blog, I'm excited to share some wonderful news.
Please join me in welcoming Tanisha D. Wilson to Moonshot Financial Group as our new Wealth Strategy Partner.
Tanisha brings more than 20 years of experience in financial services, including 15 years as a financial advisor. Her approach is built around trust, consistency, confidentiality, and helping clients create financial strategies that support the life they want to build.
Many of you may also know Tanisha as the Founder and CEO of Wilson Strategics, where she helps entrepreneurs and business owners create the operational systems that allow businesses to grow with intention instead of chaos. That same belief that lasting success comes from clarity, structure, and disciplined execution is exactly why she is such a natural fit for Moonshot.
She is deeply involved in our community, serves throughout Ellis County and the greater DFW area, and most importantly, shares our belief that financial planning should always begin with understanding the people behind the numbers.
I can't wait for many of you to meet her.
We're already planning a special market update and client event where you'll have the opportunity to hear current market insights while getting to know Tanisha personally. More details will be coming soon.
Now back to the business of blogging....
Summer has a way of making time move faster than we expect.
One minute we're celebrating the New Year, and suddenly we're halfway through it. Vacations are in full swing, kids are enjoying summer break, and before we know it, the holidays will be here.
That makes July one of my favorite times of year to pause and ask a simple question:
How is your financial plan actually going?
Not how you hoped it would go in January.
Not what the market has done.
Not what everyone else is doing.
How are you doing?
A Mid-Year Financial Checkup
The calendar has quietly given us six months of spending habits, saving habits, investing, and tax decisions.
Now is the perfect time to review what has happened before the year gets away from us.
Ask yourself:
- Is my savings account where I hoped it would be?
- Have I been intentional with my spending?
- Am I still working toward the goals I set in January?
- If I fell behind, what adjustments can I make over the next six months?
Remember, financial success rarely comes from perfection.
It comes from making small corrections before small problems become expensive ones.
Don't Let Tax Season Surprise You
Tax planning doesn't begin next April.
It begins today.
How is your tax folder looking?
Are you saving receipts?
Keeping records of charitable contributions?
Tracking deductible expenses?
Organizing documents in one easy-to-find location?
The more organized you become throughout the year, the less stressful tax season becomes—and the more opportunities you have to potentially reduce surprises when it's time to file.
Future you will be thankful.
The New "Trump Accounts"
You may have seen headlines this week about the new Trump Accounts becoming available.
Some families have already begun opening them.
One important reminder: not every child or account will qualify for the initial $1,000 government contribution.
Eligibility requirements matter.
I recently shared a LinkedIn post outlining the qualification rules, so before assuming your family qualifications, be sure to review those requirements carefully or reach out if you have questions about whether these accounts fit into your overall financial plan.
As with every new financial opportunity, the account itself isn't the strategy, it's simply another tool that may or may not fit your family's goals.
Christmas in July Isn't Just a Retail Promotion
It might sound early...
But this is one of the smartest budgeting exercises you can do.
Think about:
- How many people will you buy gifts for?
- What is your realistic budget per person?
- Will you travel?
- Will you host family?
- Do you have holiday traditions that increase spending?
Now divide that total over the next several months.
Saving a little each month is far easier than asking your credit cards to absorb the entire holiday season in December.
Your future January will appreciate it.
Finish the Year Strong
The second half of the year is full of opportunity.
There is still plenty of time to increase savings, improve cash flow, make tax-smart decisions, adjust investments if appropriate, and create momentum heading into 2027.
The goal isn't to have a perfect financial year.
The goal is to make better decisions today than you made yesterday.
Small, consistent actions have a way of producing remarkable long-term results.
Thank you, as always, for trusting Moonshot Financial Group to be part of your family's journey. We're excited about what's ahead, grateful to welcome Tanisha to our team, and look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming market update.
Until then, enjoy your summer, make a little time for your finances, and remember—when the next financial decision counts, having the right guide can make all the difference.
